Tips & Skincare Routine For Oily Skin

What is oily skin?

Your skin needs oil to stay healthy, but too much can plug your pores. Oily skin is the result of overactive oil glands beneath the skin's surface. The sebum and sebaceous glands produce fats that help moisturise and protect the skin from drying out, but excess oil production can cause pores to become clogged, often resulting in blackheads and acne breakouts.

If you are not sure how to take care of oily skin, we have put together some tips and tried-and-true products you can incorporate to your daily skincare routine.

TIP #1: USE A GENTLE CLEANSER

Hyggee pH Hyaluron Gel Cleanser

Cleansing is a great habit to keep your skin free from grease and get rid of the dirt clogged into your pores. However, over-cleansing your skin is a big no-no for oily skin as this will only dry out your skin, and cause more sebum production. Stick to cleansing only in the morning and night with a mild and and hydrating low-irritating cleanser.

Try Hyggee pH Hyaluron Gel Cleanser day and night to wash away oil, dirt and sweat that builds up on your skin’s surface. A gentle cleanser helps minimise the stripping of natural oils from the skin so that your skin stays heathy and glowing without getting dry or cracked.

TIP #2: MILD EXFOLIATION TO UNCLOG PORES

When dead skin cells mix with excess sebum, they can collect and clog large pores. The result is usually pimples and blackheads. Use an exfoliating toner pad to gently remove dead skin cells and excessive oil.

Cosrx One Step Original Clear Pad contains BHA, which penetrates deeply into the pores and helps clear clogged pores and gently exfoliates dead skin cells, giving the skin its natural glow. And! It's very convenient for touch ups or as a makeup corrector.

TIP #3: SERUM

Should you use a serum if you have oily skin? Yes! Serums can help you with oil production — even if the serum itself contains oil. That's because excess oil production can sometimes happen when your skin is overcompensating for dryness.

Serums are a great source of concentrated actives - look for actives in serums that help reduce sebum production, and care for congested pores. The Serumkind Yellomello Drop is a highly concentrated vegan & cruelty-free serum that contains vitamin E, 92% of Portuguese quince extract, and salicylic acid to assist in regulating excess oil, clearing pores, and minimising the appearance of pores. It also has an antibacterial effect that helps retain hydration.

TIP #4: AVOID HEAVY FORMULATED CREAMS

Moisture is key for oily skin. An oil-free moisturiser won't clog pores or create blemishes, but it will help keep your skin hydrated and less prone to overproducing oil. Try the Primera Alpine Berry Watery Soothing Gel Cream which regulates sebum production, provides 24-hour hydration, and strengthens your skin barrier without clogging pores.

A water-based formulation is oily-skin's best friend. A mild and hydrating face mist can soothe irritated skin, and can do wonders for skin that tends to get oily. With this Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Water Lotion, your skin will no longer crave moisture and compensate by producing excessive oil.

TIP #5: DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Although it’s tempting to touch your face, doing so can spread dirt, oil and bacteria from your hands to your face. Only touch your face when you’re cleansing, moisturising or applying sunscreen or makeup, and make sure your hands are clean first.

Kiss goodbye to the shininess and say hello to the healthy & dewy glow!
